The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce holds its Annual Wicomico County Career Day every March at Salisbury University. All ninth graders in Wicomico County are required to attend.
The event is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Guerrieri University Center at the Salisbury University campus with a lunch break from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. There are two separate sessions: an A.M. session and a P.M. session. During each session, students will have 4 ‘periods’ in which they will attend 4 different Career Presentations that they have selected and registered for.
There are typically over 45 Career Day Presenters from numerous different fields for students to choose from, including public relations, marketing, law enforcement, engineering, and education. These Presenters talk to students about possible career paths and what it is like to work in that specific field.
There will also be an essay contest for students. They will be required to write an essay on “What do you want to be after you graduate high school?” after attending the event. The essays are judged by a panel of Young Professional Committee members and first, second and third prizes will be awarded to students at each school.
This event is a joint effort between the SACC Young Professionals (YP) Committee and the Wicomico County Board of Education, and includes students from all 4 public high schools and private schools in the area.
